DBA - $125
Any business that doesn't use its legal name (the official name of the person or entity that owns the business) as part of its business name must comply with fictitious or assumed business name requirements. This means registering the name with the county recorder where business is being done.
If you do business as a sole proprietor, a DBA is usually the only thing you need to do business, other than the city licenses that are required for your trade. Keep in mind that as a sole proprietor you are still fully liable for your business. If you wish to limit your liability you may want to consider an LLC or Incorporation as the structure for your business.
If you partake in a trade that you believe has little to no liability, you may be ok doing business as a sole proprietor, you must weigh these factors when deciding which structure to go with.
